About the Course
In this 3-day Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) course you will learn about:

• Psychological reactions to crisis
• Burnout
• Mechanisms of action and peer support skills
• SAFER protocol for individual crisis intervention
• Small group interventions - Critical Incident Stress Debriefings, Defusings
• Large group interventions – Crisis Management Briefings, R.I.T.S.
• Respite centers and on scene support
• Follow-up/referrals
• Strategic Planning
• Taking care of the caregiver

Class Instructions:
Masks are optional and not required by Peoria PD.
Cleaning protocols will be instituted, and cleaning wipes/hand sanitizers available.
Lunch will be the responsibility of each attendee.
About the Instructor
Geoffrey P. Leggett
Geoffrey Leggett has served as a law enforcement officer in Arizona since 1983; working for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (1983-2009), Glendale Community College (2009-2012) and the Surprise Police Department (2011 – 2021). Highlights of his career include serving as a Interim Chief of Police, Assistant Chief, Basic Training Academy Commander, Investigations Commander, Patrol Commander and as an operator, supervisor and Commander in SWAT. While at Glendale Community College Geoff served as the Director of Law Enforcement Training, conducting in service training for law enforcement, an AZ POST approved peace officer basic training academy and civilian firearms training program.
Geoff holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Science and Administration as well as a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. He is also a graduate of the 219th Session of the FBI National Academy. Geoff serves as a member of the executive board for the Arizona Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates. In this role he serves as the director of the Arizona Leadership Education and Development (ALEAD) program. The ALEAD program is designed to provide high school age youth with the basic understanding and development of leadership principles.
Geoff has a broad range of experience in teaching leadership and skills based curriculum to everyone from high school students to academy recruits through police executives. He is a member and trainer for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation assisting individuals who have been involved in critical incidents. In 1995 he formed a Critical Incident Stress Management Team for his agency and has helped many other agencies form teams and respond to critical incidents. In October of 2001 he coordinated a response of Arizona law enforcement personnel to Ground Zero to work with members of the New York City Police Department and help them cope with the September 11th disaster.
