HELPING A FRIEND IN CRISIS – A GUIDE TO SUPPORTING EMERGENCY RESPONDER FAMILIES

Presented By:
Lisa VanHolsbeke

Course Description:

Crisis for an emergency responder family comes in many forms. A shooting, an accident, an illness, or God forbid a suicide or death. These events usually happen without warning and might not even be a result of an emergency responder’s job. It’s great to have a plan in place before such an event or illness. It also can feel safe and comforting to be surrounded by other emergency responder families who understand and relate to some of the unique stressors in these professions.

This talk will provide tools to walk alongside emergency responder families in crisis. It’s crucial to learn what to expect, what to say and what not to say, and most importantly, to learn to listen and sit quietly with others in emotional distress.
