Course Description:

When new Law Enforcement Officers take the oath, they understand that during their career they may encounter traumatic and life altering incidents.  We are taught how to survive those incidents, taught to survive at all costs.  What we are not taught is how to fight the mental battle after the incident(s).  Now imagine being involved in one of the deadliest mass shooting on U.S. soil.

Life After the Pulse Night Club incident, will take you through Agent Rivas’ career in law enforcement.   The numerous ways that trauma was not dealt with in its proper way.  The agencies actions, good and bad, in dealing with the mental health of its members.  How the Pulse Night club incident effected Agent Rivas and how it helped show him that help was out there.  And finally, how Agent Rivas was able to get help, and get back to being healthy.

Agent Rivas served with the Orlando Police Department for over 26 yrs.  Agent Rivas patrolled the streets of the highest crime areas, and was assigned to some of the following specialized units; Gang Unit, Drug Task force, Robbery Unit, ATF FBI USMS Task forces, and SWAT.  A year before the Pulse Incident, things started falling apart.  A child dying in Agent Rivas’ arms was the beginning of the breaking point.  Agent Rivas will illustrate his journey from a healthy productive man, into an officer that didn’t care about his own life.  With the help from his family, and agency, Agent Rivas was able to find himself again.  **AZPOST Approved**
